Text

I’ve always been fascinated by the relationship between text and image. I even taught a course about it (PDF download) a few years ago. Many artists have achieved striking results by juxtaposing one with the other in ways that mimic advertising or propaganda; most notably, Barbara Kruger. But, thanks to a post over at locussolus (an excellent blog I recently discovered, via this post over at LanguageHat) I just learned of an artist who does the opposite!

Matt Siber meticulously removes all the text from images, with a haunting effect. The pictures are cleverly displayed in the slide show so that you can switch between views that show just the text, or just the image.

I’m not going to waste your time talking about these images - just go look for yourself!

Very interesting. It has got to take a lot of time to remove ALL text from some of those images. Thanks for the link.
