Buzztracker

In a followup to my last post on efforts to map the news, comes a Slashdot post about Buzztracker.
A neat project called Buzztracker.org has been mining Google News for over a year and keeping track of relationships between geographic locations mentioned in articles. The results are some really cool maps that actually seem to reflect the “buzz” of the day – check out the Vatican clusters from earlier this month, or the global New Year’s chatter. You can also dig down into the articles from which the maps were generated.”

I really like how this site is done. It is almost exactly how I dreamed such a site should be – except for the failure to categorize the news. Since they are drawing from Google News, they should be able to distinguish politics from sports, etc.

want to make this fact as hidden as possible, so you think you have to plunk down for their street data product as well. Neh. Speaking of maps, Kerim has a pointer to Buzztracker, another newsmap like the one we were talking about a few days ago. [IMG image capture of Buzzmap site] I like
