<!--%kramer-ref-pre%-->[...] I thought it was total dross pontificating moralism! It was even worse than the 1971 version which was mostly dross pontificating moralism. The oompa-loompanproletariat (see link below) were boring. The only interesting thing is examing how Dahl’s attitudes were informed by the era in which he was writing (in the same way as Dicken’s or Twain’s were), and how his storytelling matured after this dross drivel. http://keywords.oxus.net/archives/2005/07/23/oompa-loompanproletariat/ Comment by bryan — August 11, 2005 @ 11:02 pm [...]<!--%kramer-ref-post%-->

oopma loompas arent mistreated they are evil!!! see the following

How Oompa Loompas will take over the World: In 3 easy steps.

1.	They will release a DVD (Charlie and the Chocolate factory) that will teach people

how to be an Oompa Loompa, hiding the fact that they eat people in their sleep, putting them in a good light.

2.	They will team up with garden gnomes who stalk your every move. They know when you

leave where and why. They know the extent of our puny little brains and know that the

majority of

the population will not see this coming.

3.	Then they will use the pink flamingos and wage war with all carbon-based life forms. You don’t know this but there are many millions of oompa loompas living underground. They have

a ratio of 2 of them for every 1 of us. They also have über fast reflexes so that when you

try to kick them that latch on to your leg with their teeth. And they are immune to our puny weapons. So we have already lost. (I.e. pwned)

[...] I recently watched the new Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movie. I was reluctant, as I found the first one tedious, but it was the only option for bluemeanie and I at the time. I only slept for 20 minutes during this movie (so it was less boring that the last one). I woke up confused because when I fell asleep the movie was taking place in England but when I woke up it seemed to be somewhere in the United States. Anyway it was with interest that I read this post about the oompa-loompanproletariat. Bluemeanie reminded me that I used to work at a chocolate factory. Oh no I didn't! I replied. But she stumped me with: Yes, you did: you made chocolate frogs.. The strange things children think up, eh? I promise that I never worked at a chocolate factory, and if I did, it was full of happy singing employees. Getting back to the film: Willy Wonka fired all his expensive and untrustworthy employees, and replaced them with outsourced labour who worked for almost nothing. In a way Roald Dahl, who wrote this story in the 1960's, was a man ahead of his time. Well maybe not, as he was writing at the beginning of the current period of globalisation.
