Although Google has great satellite images of Taiwan, until recently I knew of no decent online maps of Taiwan. There seemed to be nothing comparable to what Google offers for the United States and parts of Europe. But thanks to Ilya, I now know about UrMap, which is an excellent mapping service.

There is currently no English interface, and it doesn’t seem to accept Pinyin input either, but if you can use Chinese you can find the exact address of just about any place in Taiwan. For instance, I just put in the name of my university and it jumped right to the correct spot. I was also able to find the location of my conference in Taipei last weekend.

I especially like the typically cute” Taiwanese animated character who marks your location. Although he does look suspiciously like the AOL guy.
