P.S. I do think DPP has to work harder to protect the interests of laborers. What makes me so sad is that neither DPP nor KMT seems to care about helping upgrading Taiwanese laborers' working skills, hence providing them the kinds of skills that will enable them to find better, higher-paying jobs. Trading with China will help Taiwan's economy boom, but only those who are in the trading and transportation business will benefit from it....

In the past six years, DDP government has sold a lot of state-run business to big corporations with very low prices, which included Chunghwa Telecom Corp, the nation’s biggest telecom operator, and Taiwan Sugar Corp. What’s more, about one hundred and fifty public works in Taiwan were left unused, wasting more than forty billion dollars. In many cases, building contractors can benefit from the works because they conspired with local government.

---->This is indeed very true. However, as most Taiwanese people already know, for some obvious reasons, people who work in the PUBLIC sector only seem to care when exactly they can go home. So if these big corporations can help make Chunghwa Telecom Corp and Taiwan Sugar Copr. a lot more competitive, most Taiwanese civilians will be able to live with it (let's face it, most civilians, at least in Taiwan, are not big fans of government officials, pretty much at any level). Besides, didn't Mr. Ma, from KMT, the Pan-Blue political party, sell Taipei Bank to a private corporation at a very low price, too?

Oh well, DPP, KMT, or any other political party in Taiwan are all the same.

hi, am oiwan, from global voices online and interlocals based in Hong Kong. thanks for introducing the two projects in your blog. you are welcomed to join the interlocals.net as well, can re-post some of your post here in the site.

we want to make the interlocals site a networking processing. now it is linked up with inmediahk.net (in hk), very soon with coolloud.org.tw (in taiwan), and hopefully with chamsaesang (in seoul) in a near future. the process is to make local alternative media work together for a common platform and translate each others' news into local website. will organize a conference workshop late summer next year.

cheers, oiwan
