“Syed Massood, an economist and member of the independent national commission that prepared the assembly, said he and several colleagues almost resigned in protest over the intimidation of delegates by governors and militia leaders.
"This puts a question mark over the loya jirga’s legitimacy," he said. "There are 1,600 delegates here from all over the country, and no one is listening to their voice. I am really disappointed. We made promises to the people of Afghanistan, and now I don’t know how we can look them in the face."”
