The Recording Industry Association of America’s (RIAA) web site was buried under a flood of computer traffic over the weekend, an apparent act of protest against a controversial piece of proposed anti-piracy legislation.

The legislation would give music copyright holders the right to launch attacks of their own, which some experts believe would be similarly irresponsible.

The attack against on the RIAA began on Friday evening and lasted until late on Sunday. It was designed to disable the RIAA’s web site by overloading it with traffic from numerous different computers, a technique known as a "distributed denial of service" attack.”
