Bush is trying to kill overtime pay for millions of workers:

The Bush administration is trying to push through new regulations — without public hearings or public comment — that would deprive millions of Americans of overtime pay. The Senate can vote to block this measure. If the Senate doesn’t act, more than 8 million people stand to lose the right to overtime pay in the coming months.

Some Background: Since 1938 the FLSA has guaranteed a minimum wage and protection from working excessive hours. The FLSA was the result of a long process, one which brought FDR against the Supreme Court, who thought that a minimum wage was a violation of liberty of contract”! Here is a very detailed and fascinating history from the Department of Labor’s web site of FDRs battles to get the bill approved. When it was approved, it was full of exceptions, most of which were eventually repealed.
