Info Tech, Politics

Nowadays, anyone with a Mac can easily make their own movie — even Lawrence Lessig. Tapping into the tremendous potential afforded by the widespread availability of this technology, the political organization MoveOn.org cleverly ran a competition for a homemade anti-Bush 30 second TV spot to be run during the week of Bush’s 2004 state of the union speech. There was a tremendous response to this campaign, with thousands of submissions! Now they have picked 15 finalists. All the entries are pretty good, some could be run as is, and others could inspire more slickly produced ads that capture the same message.

My favorites are (warning, links are for high bandwidth versions, visit the web site for low bandwidth links):

BRING EM ON
by Mike Cuenca of Lawrence, KS

IN MY COUNTRY
by Harry Katatsakis, Derek Rittenhouse, Chris Wight of New York, NY

and

CHILD’S PAY
by Charlie Fisher of Denver, CO
